Groundswell Puts Backlash Beer Co. On The Map

Backlash Beer Company, one of the newest additions to the bustling Massachusetts beer community, successfully kicked off in late July with the release of their maiden brew “Groundswell.” This 20bbl batch of Groundswell is a 7.3% ABV Belgian Style Blond Ale, and set the stage for what’s to come from Backlash – aggressive, small batch offerings.

Groundswell is available on draft and in 22oz bottles, where you can find them — all 650 bombers were sold out from Backlash’s distributor in about four days. Current availability for Groundswell can be found on Backlash’s website (BacklashBeer.com) or Facebook (facebook.com/TheBacklash).

The Backlash team is comprised of just two Bostonians – president and founder Helder Pimentel, 27, and brand manager Maggie Foley, 24.  Pimentel has been an avid home brewer since he was old enough to have his first drink, and made Foley a craft beer convert just a few years ago.  Since then, the pair has worked diligently to turn Backlash from a pipe dream into reality.

Backlash is currently contract brewed out of Paper City Brewery in Holyoke, MA. Pimentel and Foley attribute much of their success thus far to the contract model – it has allowed them to launch Backlash without the weight of debt or the time it would take to get their own brewing operation off the ground. Without being bogged down in day-to-day brewery operations, the team is also free to focus on other details – such as hand labeling, wax dipping, and stamping each and every bottle of their beer.

Keep an eye out for the next Backlash brew – a Super Saison, checking in around 8% ABV, coming early this fall. As with Groundswell, batch size will be limited. Snag some while you can!
